What makes Twitter work? It’s not the platform. Yes, they’ve done a great job of setting up a system. It’s pretty robust, people take to it quickly, it’s easy to use and it’s adequate in terms of functionality. That isn’t why it’s buzzing right along, though.
The main reason Twitter works is because it provides people with a chance to make human connections easily. It’s probably the easiest way to make connections online and that’s only going to continue as the user base grows.
When you understand that real personal connections are at the heart of why Twitter works, it empowers you to use the service in the most productive manner possible.
Those who don’t “get it” rarely succeed in marketing via Twitter. They come across as lacking authenticity an they don’t make great individual connections along the way.
Those who do “get it” are able to leverage their involvement into a higher degree of marketing success.
Which group do you fall into?
If you don’t have an answer, let me remind you of an old poker idea. They say that if you’re playing poker, you should be able to look around the table to spot the worst player there. If you can’t figure out who that person is, it’s probably you.
In other words, you need to really get a grip on why Twitter works and what that means to your business if you haven’t yet done so.
